A big boost for scientists addressing global challenges

Duke is at the forefront of addressing the world’s most difficult challenges: epidemic disease, climate change, energy sustainability and more.

This transformational grant will allow us to recruit the brightest and boldest thinkers and provide them with the infrastructure they need to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.

Because these and other problems require solutions that span disciplines, the university’s highly collaborative culture is a great place to invest in people working on them.

The Duke Endowment announced a landmark $50 million grant to recruit researchers who specialize in the applied and basic sciences across both the university and Duke Health. The plan is to hire a dozen or more faculty across Duke to work with colleagues in multiple disciplines. With the new faculty members in place, Duke can expand its scientific research and better prepare students to be leaders in emerging professions.
