Football funding in memory of a beloved employee

It’s exceptional to find someone who has spent a half-century of service at a single institution.

Mary Dinkins was an absolute treasure who devoted her entire career to Duke,

--Duke Vice President and Director of Athletics Kevin White.

Deserving of the conversation of longevity and dedicated service at Duke is Mary Dinkins ’72, who served Duke Athletics for 44 years and had an enormous impact on the Duke community. Along the way, she was the connection for hundreds of student-athletes back to the university in her roles as a student worker for the football program, assistant to the head football coach and director of the Varsity Club before she retired in 2016. Two years after her retirement, Dinkins passed away.

In honor of her years of service to Duke Football and Duke Athletics, Scott Wolcott ’78 created an endowment in honor of Duke Athletics Hall of Fame member Mary Dinkins ’72. To date, nearly 100 former student-athletes, alumni and friends have contributed to the Mary Dinkins Football Fund.
