Building the next generation of nurses who promote health equity

At Duke University School of Nursing, Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda Ph.D., the Dorothy L. Powell Term Chair of Nursing, is making sure the next generation of nursing students at Duke understand that public health is about more than just perception. It’s about identity.

Duke University School of Nursing Term Chairs recognize the accomplishments of an early career faculty member with exceptional promise in a program of research.

Her research as a nurse-scientist focuses on important topics like intimate partner violence, substance abuse, HIV, and mental health among Latinos in the U.S., and culturally tailored interventions to address these issues. Her research seeks answers to why Latinos who immigrate to the U.S. are healthier than average Americans, and how that information can be used to improve health for everyone.
