A Duke field hockey fundraising hat trick

The team that stays together, plays together – and fundraises together.

When it comes to the Iron Dukes, helping to provide the resources necessary to enrich the lives of Duke student-athletes as they strive to be champions in the classroom and at the highest levels of athletic competition is part of Duke’s culture of winning.

Duke Field Hockey has raised $1 million toward its $1.4 million True Field Hockey Facilities Campaign through the support of key volunteers and former players, including Terri Farner Burke ’95, Amy Reydel Fuchs ’91, Donna Zavada Wilkinson ’89, P’21 and Lauren Miller Apple ’10. Exemplifying Duke Athletics’ “Teaming Up” concept, they helped the Iron Dukes re-engage alumnae who were not donating. The volunteer team tripled the amount of former field hockey players now giving back to the program. This was the first such volunteer committee for Athletics, creating a proven model for other teams.
