McCutchens raise the bar on reconciliation

In 2014, Bill B.S.C.E.’62 and Renie McCutchen ’62, P’86 endowed the directorship of the Center for Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School. In 2019, they added to the directorship, elevating it to full professor. Edgardo Colón-Emeric is currently the Irene and William McCutchen Associate Professor of Reconciliation and Theology; director of the Center for Reconciliation; and senior strategist for the Hispanic House of Studies.

We have been blessed by our involvement with the center for the last decade, and we believe its work is vital in the United States and around the world. We are delighted to be able to ensure the long-term future of the Center for Reconciliation within the Divinity School.

— Renie McCutchen ’62, P’86

Colón-Emeric crosses ethnic and denominational boundaries to promote the center’s goals which are supported by the McCutchens' gift; he promotes the arduous but rewarding journeys toward reconciliation. Of working with masters and doctoral students at the Divinity School, he says: “We have wonderful students who come from many parts of the United States and the world. Being able to teach them at Duke Divinity is a tremendous and rare gift.”
